Sometimes we come across old headstones bearing inscriptions that are no longer readable. For this reason, we stock in our headstone hunter go-bag a roll of aluminum foil and a soft, cellulose sponge. By placing a sheet of foil on the headstone and gently rubbing it with the sponge, we can sometimes recover out what it says. It’s a cool feeling to salvage a piece of history that would eventually be washed away forever.T
